Sour news recently surfaced out of Japan that Bandai Namco will soon be closing twenty game centers across the country. Bandai Namco Holdings president Shukuo Ishikawa said in the announcement that they plan to shutter the establishments by the end of March. This represents an almost 10% cut in its total number of arcades in the country.

Bandai Namco was recently listed as the most powerful video game company in Japan, though factors such as the country’s April tax increase will raise their operating cost in 2014.

The move was prompted by the company as a cost-cutting measures due, in part, to the game centers’ lagging profits. According to Ishikawa, this will save the company approximately ?3.5 billion (~$34 million USD). Further financial information can be found over on Avoiding the Puddle.

愚见：如果框体的购入能更宽容一点的话可能可以让街机厅更好的生存，毕竟现在街机游戏的制作商也在向街机厅收取投币带来的利润，原本100日元一次的游戏都变成200日元了。框体不降价的情况下，可以提供多一种购入选择：允许机厅每月支付4%的总价来租这台框体，当累计支付了原价格110%的金钱后将获得该框体。中途不再支付则该月再赔偿4%给制作框体的公司后归还框体。损坏框体时机厅则必须补足110%的总价购入或支付维修费，这也许能让资金更好周转吧。

街机厅本身在时代的洪流中逐渐被淘汰，格斗游戏在街机中也越来越被体感类和女性向游戏挤压。不少街机格斗游戏都由主街机变成主游戏机的道路，并且STEAM今年的盈利能力展示也加大了街机的压力。
