Sour news recently surfaced out of Japan that Bandai Namco will soon be closing twenty game centers across the country. Bandai Namco Holdings president Shukuo Ishikawa said in the announcement that they plan to shutter the establishments by the end of March. This represents an almost 10% cut in its total number of arcades in the country. Bandai Namco was recently listed as the most powerful video game company in Japan, though factors such as the country’s April tax increase will raise their operating cost in 2014. The move was prompted by the company as a cost-cutting measures due, in part, to the game centers’ lagging profits. According to Ishikawa, this will save the company approximately ?3.5 billion (~$34 million USD).
